Joint Crisis

Joint Crisis Committee - Suez Canal: United Kingdom

Welcome to the JCC- Suez Canal, United Kingdom!  Our committee will explore the Suez Canal Crisis from the perspective of the great power, the U.K.  We will interact with both Israel, our supposed ally, and Egypt, our presumed adversary.  Much diplomacy will be necessary to solve this crisis without bloodshed, although it is quite possible that we will be forced to resort to force.  As the crisis commences, it will be important for us to keep an eye on development at home, since it is all too easy to let the conflict abroad overshadow our domestic duties.  Between balancing domestic and international affairs, debating with fellow delegates, and maintaining Britain’s status in the international community, our committee should be both intellectually engaging and entertaining.

I'm excited to have the opportunity to chair a JCC committee; I have been involved with MUN since my sophomore year of High School, and JCC committees were always my favorite. I went to Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, New Jersey. Here at Duke, I'm studying economics, specifically economies of developing countries. Last year, I worked as a research assistant in a memory development lab, and I am currently a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. I spent my summer teaching English in Costa Rica and improving my Spanish, since I would like to work with developing countries in South or Central America. I can't wait to meet you all and watch us beat Israel and Egypt!
