Joint Crisis

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is a cooperative body of officials and experts from relevant ministries of member nations that collaborates on reports and recommendations regarding international recognition of, and responses to global climate change (known more commonly as global warming).  This body acts as a plenary committee that accepts the reports and products of other IPCC working groups and reformulates the language so as to most effectively serve as a common guideline for individual governments to legislate on methods for adapting to and mitigating global climate change. This plenary group also brings governments together in order to draft international solutions to acute climate effects that do not respect national borders.  Delegates will be asked to think outside the conventional solutions of simple reductions in greenhouse emissions to those that respect the economic expansion of rapidly developing nations while addressing the problems posed by shifting global climate.

Chair: Alexander Robel Email: alexander.robel@duke.edu
Alex is a sophomore hailing from Miami, FL. He is currently contemplating a double major in Physics and Earth/Ocean Sciences, with dabblings in Latin American Studies and Public Policy. Alex has responded to the siren’s call of research since high school, holding positions with NOAA, U of Miami, NASA and the Duke Nicholas School for the Environment. He is excited to be chairing one of, if not the, first IPCC simulation in the country. He looks forward to meeting all his delegates this coming spring and hearing new approaches to the challenge of climate change.
