Joint Crisis

The Human Rights Council

The Human Rights Council will be discussing some of the most horrifying and pressing global issues of our day; those pertaining to the protection and abuse of human rights. We will be bringing forth current and ongoing atrocities, and grappling with them true to the disparate, tangled and oft misaligned interests of the global political community.  This will be a fascinating opportunity to see how larger political motives or incentives are played out on a grand scale, affecting those most helpless in the world. And, possibly, to enact the necessary change that needs to occur to aid those greatest in need

Hi, I’m Allison Atwill and I’m absolutely thrilled to be your Chair for the Human Rights Committee for this year’s DUMUNC. I’m currently a sophomore at Duke, pursuing a major in Program II, which is a build-your-own major program, in which I'll be focusing on Economics, Political Science, Chinese, and Computer Science. I’ve been involved in human rights since I can remember, really, volunteering for Direct Relief International since elementary school, and I also led the Amnesty International Club while I was in high school. I can’t wait to meet you all at the conference!

Hi, everyone! My name is Melissa Lisenbee and I will be a Co-Chair for the Human Rights Council this year. I am a sophomore at Duke and an International Comparative Studies major and Political Science and Economics minor. This is my sixth year participating in Model United Nations and my second year at DUMUNC. I usually say that I am from Kansas, although I have also lived in Washington, California, Tennessee, Virginia, and South Korea. I love the smell of fresh cut grass and the taste of grape popsicles! I am looking forward to meeting all of you at this year’s conference and encourage you to e-mail me if you have any questions at all about the HRC or DUMUNC in general.
