The United Nations Policy Institute

DUMUNC XXVII is proud to present, for the very first time anywhere, the Policy Institute of the United Nations. Modeled after the founding principles of such widely respected think tanks such as the Brookings Institute and the Heritage Foundation (US), RUSI and Chatham House (UK) and the Montaigne Institute (FR), this Institute addresses the need for a think tank that conducts research and policy analysis on broader international issues. Composed of highly esteemed thinkers hailing from all around the world, this Institute will possess the charge to research and analyze any and all international treaties, laws and issues, with the objective of ultimately providing a fair assessment of the situation as well as detailed recommendations. This year, the think tank will focus specifically on different realms of international relations that are outdated and may require revision. Although fictional, this United Nations Policy Institute has great potential. It offers to UN bodies a unique service: accountable and unbiased studies and recommendations. We hope you will join us in taking part in this interesting and innovative committee!

Chair: Chris Edelman Email: christopher.edelman@duke.edu
Hey guys! I'm Chris Edelman, a freshman at Duke, and I'll be one of your two co-chairs of the UNPI. I was on my high school's Model UN team and am looking forward to being on the more administrative end now. As a Chicagoan, I am a HUGE Cubs fan (next year's our year!), and I love playing and following sports in general. I also really love flying, roller coasters, Chinese food, trying new experiences for the first time, and hot chocolate. I'm a very passionate person and I take whatever I do seriously. I'll probably be majoring in Political Science here although I'll definitely be taking my share of Economics, Public Policy, and English classes as well. Keep in mind, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about Duke, classes, Durham, etc… Additionally, if you have any questions about DUMUNC, the UNPI, parliamentary procedure, or life in general, shoot me an e-mail!
